Cat Saving Program
** Program Update
— June 2006 ** As you may
may have seen, Norman (the most recent 'graduate'
from our Cat Saving Program) has been adopted
and is doing well in his new home. Subsequent
to our initial plea for foster carers to
establish the Cat Saving Program, we've
received lots of phone calls and your wonderful
response is very heartening! Many of these
calls, however, were from people who work
long hours or already have multiple animals
so we're unable to place one of these special
cats with them — but we genuinely
appreciate your generous offers of help.
We're still keen to hear from people who
can help with these special cats. If you
have a busy household, work from home or
are interested in fostering cats —
either cats in the Cat Saving Program or
those in our regular rehoming prorgram —
please call us on 9824 7928 or 9885 1188.
We'd love to hear from you!

Save-A-Dog Scheme's
Position on Cats
Save-A-Dog Scheme is primarily a
dog organisation. Part of our work is to
operate a regional pound and therefore we
are charged with the care of species other
than dogs, the greatest number of which
are cats.
Under our contract, Save-A-Dog Scheme only
acquires cats from two specific areas; hence
the number of cats we deal with is small
compared to the larger shelters which are
responsible for larger areas. This places
us in the fortunate position of being able
to offer a humane alternative to the vast
majority of cats and kittens unclaimed from
our pound. These cats and kittens, as with
the dogs, are assessed, have their vet work
completed and are then rehomed by Save-A-Dog
Scheme.
Cat Saving Program
There is a particular category of cats which
require fostering for the purpose of completing
their interactive skills with people before
they will pass our rehoming assessment tests.
We are distressed at the thought
of having to kill these animals when all
they need is time and closer contact with
people and their environments.
To this end, Save-A-Dog Scheme has established
a program to help them. We therefore DESPERATELY
NEED appropriate people to be part of this
“cat saving team”.
How You Can Help
You don't have to be a cat expert
to help! We are seeking animal lovers in
general; people who believe animals should
be given every opportunity to enter the
community. In particular, for the Cat Saving
Program we're looking for people who work
from home or have a busy household with
lots of comings and goings rather than people
who are away from home for long hours.
We provide all equipment, guidance and
visits on a regular basis. To facilitate
supervision of the program, we would prefer
foster homes that aren't too far from our
shelter in Malvern, but we're flexible and
welcome discussion with would-be helpers
who may live further away.
Please
help us — without this program, these
cats will die
If you believe they should live, we need
your help!
For more information on our program, please
contact us on 9824
7928 or 9885 1188. Please leave a
message on the answering machine if necessary
and we'll return your call.
